YOGA AND YOU - 6 week Yoga Study Group
Yoga Study Group, is a six week course designed to deepen and extend your understanding of yoga. Scheduled across six Tuesdays, the YSG will cover the basics of yoga in a friendly group environment. Facilitated by Sankalpananda and Atma, committed yogini’s and experienced yoga practitioners.

What will I learn?
We discuss the anatomy of the body and how that relates to your postures. We examine some of the key postures of yoga, why we do them, correct movement and possible modifications you could make if needed. Each week we look at a pranayama (breathing) practice and discuss the benefits and 'how to's'. We also cover an introduction to relaxation and meditation through traditional and simple practices.
You finish this 6 week Yoga Study Group with a deeper understanding of yoga, allowing you to have a solid personal practice to work with, and offering a great ‘prequel’ to the Level 1 Teacher Training journey, should you wish to take this further. This offers you a firm foundation of knowledge and experience of true yoga.
Who is this course for?
An essential course to build the foundations and confidence for anyone who wants to deepen their own personal yoga practice and gain confidence within themselves. This course is also a part of our 200hr Yoga Teacher Training to establish a solid personal practice.

Who is facilitating this course?
Sankalpananda (Wendy Vermeulen), is an internationally qualified Yoga and Pilates instructor, personal trainer and life coach with 30 years’ experience in wellness, fitness and mindfulness training. Sankalpananda also teaches anatomy on Ashram Yoga teacher training courses, runs regular retreats and facilitates workshops. Atma is a Director and Senior Tutor of Ashram Yoga – New Zealand’s foremost Yoga school. She regularly facilitates Teacher Trainings, workshops, classes and courses. Atma is a lifelong yoga practitioner who has devoted her life to transmitting traditional Yoga.

• Pranayama: Yogic and diaphragmatic breathing

Week 2
• Anatomy: Core
• Asana: abdominal strengthening and energy boosters
• Pranayama: Yogic Breath & 9 Count Breathing
• Meditation – Stage 1
Week 3
• Anatomy: Glutes & hamstrings
• Asana: Extensions
• Pranayama: Nasagra Mudra, Alternate Nostril breath
• Meditation: Stage 2
Week 4
• Anatomy: Back and shoulders
• Asana: Spine mobility
• Pranayama: Alternate Nostril with a count, throat lock

• Asana: hip openers and balance
