A comprehensive beginners to intermediate yoga course. This course starts with the beginning stages of asana, movement, breathing, relaxation and meditation and progressively moving through to the more extended forms in a systematic way.

Please note: To ensure a place, send a $300 (non-refundable) deposit to Ashram Yoga. The balance can be paid on the first day or by regular instalments (please arrange with us). The full amount is to be paid no later than the fifth weekend of the course if paying by instalments.

Fully-certified course for yoga students and teachers. A comprehensive beginners to intermediate level course which starts with the beginning stages of postures, movement, breathing, relaxation and meditation building up to more extended forms. This course lays a firm foundation for personal practice, teaching and further study. All workbooks are supplied.

Ashram Yoga Certified
6 months part time

  • 6 x completed weekend workshops at Ashram Yoga, including Friday evenings, 7.30pm - 9.30pm
  • 1 x anatomy intensive weekend at Ashram Yoga
  • Daily personal practice for the month in between each workshop.
  • Monthly assignments to be completed made up of daily practice, home study and written exercises.
  • Weekly attendance to yoga classes with journal entry.
Yoga Alliance 200hr Certification
This is a further option available including:
- Completion of Level 1
- Supervised teaching
- Plus 52.5 additional learning hours, e.g. weekly attendance to yoga classes, or workshops can be included in these hours. You can complete this either during or after the six month course, enabling you to register as a Yoga Alliance Teacher. To find out how click here.

The course includes workbooks and all information needed. Extra text books are of benefit, although not compulsory, and are available at Ashram Yoga. Each month builds upon the preceding months to produce a comprehensive and progressive understanding of yoga practices, and their application to both daily practice and teaching.

The course covers a full spectrum of practices from absolute beginners to intermediate level:

  • Asanas: yoga postures - moving, holding and corrective for the various bodily systems, e.g. digestive, hormonal, reproductive, etc.
  • Pranayama : yogic breathing techniques to both energise and balance.
  • Mudra: gestures
  • Mantra: sound patterns
  • Systematic Yogic Relaxation
  • Meditation: a systematic approach to release stress and increase the awareness
  • Shatkarmas: to purify and cleanse the body
  • Anatomy and Physiology: structure and function of the main physical body systems, and the energy systems of the subtle body. The last weekend of Teacher Training is dedicated to learning the anatomy of knees, hips, shoulder girdle and alignment for safety in yoga classes with Dr Louise Chasteau.
  • Application of yoga to body, energy, mind and emotions
  • Elementary therapeutic yoga for pregnancy, back problems, migraines, breathing needs, etc.
  • Postural and Adjustment techniques
  • Teaching Methodology
  • Introduction to Ayurveda (sister healing science to yoga)
  • Introduction to the Yoga Philosophy

On completion of this course you are able to:

  • Formulate group and individual classes for differing levels of ability and needs including utilising asanas, pranayama, relaxation and simple meditation techniques.
  • Apply beginners to intermediate yoga practices for overall health, wellness and therapeutic benefits
  • Understand how to apply the practices for optimum effect, for yourself and in yoga classes.
  • Understand the physiological and psychological effects of practicing yoga: how it affects our body, energy, brain and mind.
